Eyelid Reconstruction
The eyelid may be affected by skin cancer, most commonly basal cell carcinoma. Although these tumors are usually slow growing, the best treatment is to remove the lesion in its entirety. Removal may be performed in conjunction with a dermatologist who specializes in the Mohs technique. This technique ensures microscopic confirmation of tumor removal while preserving as much normal tissue as possible. Following removal, Dr. Hui will reconstruct your eyelid and help you to achieve the best functional and cosmetic outcome possible. Properly functioning eyelids are needed to protect the health of the eye and your vision. Surgical options include closing the area with stitches, rotating/moving tissue from surrounding areas to cover the defect, or using tissue grafts to reconstruct the area. She has extensive experience in eyelid reconstruction following Mohs surgery and has authored numerous book chapters on the subject. She will take your individual situation into consideration to develop the optimal surgical plan.
