Eye Lid Surgery/Blepharoplasty

Eyelid skin is normally smooth, but with time, the eyelid tissue stretches and the muscles weaken. This can leave eyelids looking puffy and tired.  An outpatient eyelid blepharoplasty (eye lift) can address this puffiness and sagging, remove eyelid bags, and help to restore a more youthful, rested appearance.

During an upper lid blepharoplasty, the incision is marked along the contour of the eyelid crease. Excess skin is then removed, and the incision is closed with fine sutures. The incision mark usually fades over time and is hidden within the upper eyelid fold.

Insurance plans may cover upper lid blepharoplasty. A short office evaluation consisting of examination, visual field testing and photography are needed to determine if this is possible.

During a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions (either on the inside or on the skin of the lower lid) and excess skin and/or bags are removed. Incisions made inside the eyelid are not visible; incisions on the skin are barely visible and generally fade. Dr. Hui will help you determine which approach is most appropriate for your care.

Recovery:  Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis.  For the first few days after the procedure Dr. Hui will ask that you apply ice packs and cool compresses to minimize the swelling.  Most patients experience minimal discomfort and are able to return to their normal routine in approximately 1 week.  Dr. Hui also asks that you protect the eyelids from the sun for a few months after the procedure to achieve the optimal outcome.
